Temple University offers several Accelerated Degree Programs arranged between undergraduate and graduate or professional schools and colleges. These programs enable academically qualified students to earn a bachelor's and an advanced degree—graduating sooner than they would have completing two distinct programs.
+1 Undergraduate/Graduate Accelerated Programs
Eligible undergraduate students use up to 12 specified graduate credits approved by the school/college to fulfill requirements for their undergraduate degree. Upon graduation from their undergraduate program, students move seamlessly into their graduate program, which they complete, in most cases, in one additional year. Students should meet with their advisor as soon as possible to discuss requirements for eligibility and the application process.
Students may enter a +1 Accelerated Program in either the junior or senior year. Transfer students are eligible if they have transferred to Temple no later than second term of the junior year. To meet the guidelines for admission and maintain standing in a +1 Accelerated Program, students must:
- Begin the program between the first term of the junior year and the first term of the senior year and continue through the final term of the senior year.
- Apply between the second term of the sophomore year and the second term of the junior year.
- Be able to complete the bachelor's degree within one (for senior status entrants) or two (for junior status entrants) years of program entry.
- Have a minimum 3.00 cumulative GPA before the start of the term in which they will begin the program and take the first graduate course. Some schools/colleges have designated higher cumulative minimum GPAs and this information is listed within the program requirements. Click on the links below to find out more about the minimum GPAs, the coursework, and the application process.
- Be a declared major in the designated undergraduate degree.
- Maintain full-time undergraduate status and not register for an overload (take no more than 18 credits total per term).
- Complete at least 6 but not more than 12 graduate credits as part of their undergraduate roster, with the following stipulations:
- No more than one graduate course (3-4 credits) in either term of the junior year.
- No more than three graduate courses (9 credits) in the senior year.
- No more than two graduate courses (6 credits) in either term of the senior year.
- Take graduate courses from the prescribed list only; no exceptions.
- Maintain a 3.00 cumulative GPA throughout the program and earn at least a B grade in each graduate course.
- Formally apply for admission to the Graduate school in the second term of the senior year, with the following stipulations:
- Students will be required to pay the Graduate School application fee.
- Students will not need to submit a GRE score.
- Complete the graduate degree in one year after completion of the bachelor's degree.
